Blessed Sturgeon Moon, my lovelies!
August’s full moon gets its name from Native Americans who lived near the Great Lakes. Late summer is the best time of year to catch the large sturgeon fish that lived in those great bodies of water, and the name stuck.
In other parts of early America that relied more on crops, tribes called August’s full moon the Green Corn Moon, or Grain Moon.
Today is also the first day of school for many of us. By the end of the day, plan on being a little more depleted than usual. New beginnings are exciting, and they can also be quite challenging, especially for the kiddos.
Easy Family Full Moon Pow-Wow
Step outside with the family a few minutes before the kids’ bedtime, when the moon will already be visible in the eastern sky. Sit for a moment, and have the family recap their day while absorbing the positive energy of the moon at her fullest.
If you have the option, then after the kids are in bed tonight, take a solo walk in the moonlight to recharge. It’s a terrific way to cleanse yourself of the day’s chaos and stress, and also connect with the earth.
After today’s new beginning, things will probably get both more predictable (with the routine of the school year), and also more stressful (hurrying to get to school and afterschool activities).
Make sure you take some extra time soon to do something nice for yourself. Meet a girlfriend for lunch, get a massage or a pedicure, or just take a quiet bath with Epsom salts and a few drops of your favorite essential oil. Indulge yourself in a full-body scrub down with exfoliating sea salt and moisturizing avocado oil with real. kind.'s salt scrub.
And because no send-off of children is complete without a stiff drink, here’s one of my favorite summer cocktail recipes. It goes great with a girlfriend. By the pool.
Suz's Summer Breeze
1 46 oz. can pineapple juice
1 cup cranberry juice
1 bottle Malibu rum
1 cup tequila
Frozen fruit to keep it cold (blackberries, grapes, and cranberries do nicely)
Mix it all together, and dole it out while you enjoy the summer.
